I think LeCavalier would excel in a 3rd line checking role at the right price, If he redefined his career he could be as good as Jordan Staal was in that role - I'd consider dumping a Dupuis deal if we could land Lecavalier and then I'd trade Sutter for a young winger for Sid

good luck fitting him under the cap. He's gunna have a lot of offers, granted nowhere near his old 7+ cap hit in Tampa, but lots of suiters=bidding war=higher price tag.

But anyways just came in to say that you should deal Letang to Carolina. You stole Pouliot and Sutter from them last year, maybe there's more to be had.

Lecavalier will be the #1 free agent on the market. He will not be joining any team to become a third line player.

I would keep Dupes over taking Vinny. What young forward do you get for Sutter. He is solid, but not great. Toronto fans are clamering for Sutter and willing to give up a bum that was one-time a 30-goal scorer and now is lucky to hit seven.

We couldn't fit Vinny in ... he isn't a third line guy to begin with.

Also under team control with a very reasonable cap hit. Bonehead move trading him the way our team is built. He's only 23. Could get plenty better over the next few seasons.

Dumb questions about buyout guys... are they UFA's the moment that they clear waivers, or are do they wait until July 5th?

And if they wait, can a team negotiate with them before that? It can't really be tampering if the players old team cut him loose, can it?

- rival22

I believe that this year teams can start to talk to UFA's on July 2 in advance of the July 5 start of free agency.

I have always liked Letang and that he is very feisty. If all the forwards have been taking by the time 9 rolls around I would love for Lou to pitch a trade for him for the 9th and someone as he will be miles better immediately then any one of Nurse Ristolinen or Zadarov and he is still pretty young and will be good for at least 6-8 years before you start to see any decline. I know Shero probably wouldn't want to move him to a team he would have to play a lot. Just wish full thinking

Think he has a real estate agent in Montreal yet?

Gunner, you had to mention the fact that Letang hasn't had the same defensive partner the whole season. I know....you'll probably say that a $6-7M d-man has to be dependable and all...but how about giving him and Despres a whole year together?

How about Bylsma's system? His GAA is a product of that too. Too many stretch passes asked to be made. All of our defenders already said Bylsma's system is complicated.

All I'm saying is..he'll be better next year and Bylsma most certainly will fix some of his mishaps/problems.

I don't think it is a slam dunk to Montreal. There are going to be plenty of suitors. This move is a game changer for the off season of many teams who might have to reanalyze their strategies now.

Enough with the Bylsma's system. You draw me up a system and show me the x's and o's that has intercepted passes in your own slot and blue line turnovers in the game plan.

Excellent question. They HAVE to be in play, right Ek? *crickets*

Too busy trying to write Flyers rumors or put Letang in Montreal.

Putting aside any deal of Sutter and Kuli or what kind of fit he'd be with Syd, Kulemin is better than you're portraying him. He'll likely never hit 30 goals again, but he's a very good defensive player with a ton of grit and determination, and he's got skill enough to capitalize in the right situation.

Hardly a bum...

Toronto should keep him then. They could've used some of that in the last 5 minutes against Boston.

Yeah, I guess teams that actually make it down to 5 minutes left in game 7 with Boston just need to fine tune

I thought you were going to come back with the obvious that as an oilers fan I haven't seen my team anywhere near game 4, let alone 7 for the better part of a decade

You know that old GM adage of sometimes the best move is not making a move.

Well, it isn't always true...

Jeff Marek ‏@JeffMarek now
Lawton had him going to the Habs for Price, Pacioretty, a 1st and either Subban or McDonaugh.

This was in 2009...

Ouch...

Nah...I wouldn't do that. You're generally nice and funny so no need to throw mud around.

Besides we hadn't gotten out of the 1st or 2nd round in a few years so that mud is more like stones in a glass house.

Ok....the trap? Bylsma hasn't been able to have success against...but let's forget about it.
